Michael Kelly earned a B.S. at SUNY Buffalo and a Ph.D. at Princeton University studying photochemistry and electrochemistry. He was a member of the founding scientific team of Millennium Cell, an alternative energy start-up. After ten years and nearly 30 U.S. patents in the alternative energy sector, Dr. Kelly returned to Princeton in 2008 to pursue a teaching career. Currently, he teaches Core Laboratory and Physical Chemistry to Princeton undergraduates. He teaches the federally mandated Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) course on scientific ethics for the graduate and post-doctoral students, as well as RCR seminars for undergraduate researchers. Dr. Kelly remains passionate about energy science, particularly electricity storage, and innovative electrochemistry. As an instructor, Dr. Kelly tries to make his classes as interactive as possible. His students are actually required to ask questions, because he believes they know best which topics are the trickiest to learn and most interesting to talk about.
